Description
The XBee Series 2 modules, on-board RF modules XBee and XBee-PRO S2C,offer a solution perfectly suited to the installation of dense or meshed networks of radio controlled equipment. It is an efficient economical alternative to cable deployment. XBee Series 2 modules also make it easy to establish point-to-point radio connectivity
the XBee series 2 therefore support protocols 802.15.4 (point to point / point - multipoint), ZigBee (3.0 interoperable mesh networks) and DigiMesh (Battery mesh networks). It is possible to modify the default protocol on the module via the XCTU utility. This is particularly useful in the development phase to evaluate the different options, for example ZigBee vs. DigiMesh.
XBee Series 2 modules are available in Crossing ("TH" Through-Hole) or CMS ("SMT" Surface Mount),
The modules exist in Standard version which emits up to 8dB, and in PRO version, which emits up to 18dB. It is your responsibility to respect the regulations in force in the deployment area.
The modules are also available in versionProgrammable, which embeds a Freescale microcontroller programmable via CodeWarrior:
The programmable part consisting of a Freescale microcontroller, memory and a set of I / O is isolated from the radio part and allows the user to integrate without risk directly into the modem an application, a process control , or any other application that normally requires the addition of components and external intelligence.
This module can greatly simplify the design part of your projects. For energy self-sufficient applications, we will appreciate the sleep mode current which is less than 1 µA, currently the lowest on the market.

Via utility XCTU, the user can configure his module himself and choose his Firmware: 802.15.4, ZigBee or DigiMesh
For reasons of strict compliance with the ETSI standard, the user can choose to program his modem with a power limited to 10mW (instead of 63mW) for continuous use in a public place for example.
